CAF4U Navigation HUD Companion

CAF4U Navigation HUD Companion is provided by Hugo Doswald trading as CAF4U (Community Advancement Foundation For You). This policy explains how the Android application accesses and handles information.

How the app works

The app is a companion display. It presents supported navigation information already available on the user's Android device. It does not calculate a route, replace the navigation provider, or operate an independent navigation service.

Notification access

If the user grants Android notification access, the app reads supported active navigation notifications on the device. It uses relevant information—such as manoeuvres, distance, road or instruction text, estimated arrival information and lane guidance—to create the HUD display.

This processing occurs locally on the device. CAF4U does not receive or store the user's notification content on a server. Android's notification-access screen may describe this system permission broadly because it is controlled by Android; the app is designed to act only on supported navigation sources.

Location and speed

The optional Speed display uses foreground location permission to obtain device motion and calculate current speed. The app does not request background location, does not use location to create a route, and does not transmit location to CAF4U. Location readings used for Speed are not retained as journey history.

Settings and saved layouts

HUD preferences, display settings, entitlement state and saved layouts are stored locally on the device. They are not uploaded to CAF4U.

Optional diagnostic road-test logs

Developer or diagnostic tools may allow the user to start a road-test recording. A recording can contain navigation-notification content and related technical metadata, which may include instructions, road names, distances, route-related text and navigation graphics. Recordings are stored locally on the device.

A recording leaves the device only when the user deliberately exports or shares it using Android's sharing controls. Users should review recordings before sharing them because navigation information could reveal sensitive places or journeys. CAF4U does not automatically collect these recordings.

Crash reporting and analytics

The public release does not enable automatic Firebase Crashlytics collection and does not use an analytics service. Development or test builds may enable limited crash diagnostics for engineering validation. These diagnostics are designed not to include navigation instructions, road names, destinations, notification payloads, journey logs or user identifiers.

Purchases

Paid features, when available, are purchased through Google Play. Google processes payment information under Google's own privacy policy. The app may receive purchase status and transaction identifiers from Google Play to provide, acknowledge and restore entitlements. CAF4U does not receive the user's full payment-card details.

Advertising

The app does not contain advertising and does not use an advertising identifier for personalised advertising.

Sharing and sale of data

CAF4U does not sell personal data. The audited release does not transmit notification content, location or journey logs to CAF4U or third parties. Information may leave the device only when the user initiates an export or when Google Play processes a purchase.

Data retention and deletion

CAF4U does not hold an app account or server-side journey history for this application. Local settings and app-private recordings can be removed by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app. Exported recordings saved in the device's Downloads area must be deleted by the user through the device's file manager. Google Play purchase records are retained by Google under Google's policies.

Children

The app is intended for adults and is not designed for children. It is a driving companion and should be configured before a journey begins.

Driving safety

Users must obey applicable road laws and signs, keep their attention on the road, and avoid interacting with the app while driving. Navigation instructions remain the responsibility of the navigation provider.

Security

The app limits its requested access to functionality needed for the HUD. No method of electronic storage is completely secure, but CAF4U applies reasonable technical measures and reviews permissions and data flows before release.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when the app's functionality or legal obligations change. The current version will be published at this page with a revised effective date.
